  • County Democrats Meeting Sept. 12

    Hello San Juan County Democrats!

Summer is mostly behind us, which means we’re entering into midterms season.

As a result, our next meeting will be our final endorsements for the midterm election. If you’d like to vote for who the San Juan County Democrats endorse for the 2026 midterms, make sure to attend.

Although we were hoping for an in-person meeting, we’re going to meet over zoom for maximum accessibility for our local members. The link to find the meeting is here:

Time: Sep 12, 2026 10:00 AM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

We have a wonderful endorsement committee that has been fielding endorsement requests for various candidates for the midterms, and they will have suggestions for who we should endorse – but the decision is up to you, the members of the San Juan County Democrats! Our only requirement is that you have attended at least two previous meetings to verify you are indeed a member of the party.

The endorsements we make at this meeting will be sent out on the SJC Dems postcard to all our members – so this is a pretty important meeting. Please join us!

    Stay tuned for more information!

    In Solidarity,

    Adam Rogowski

    Chair, San Juan County Democrats

  • No Kings, New Chair

I am writing to remind you of the No Kings Day protests this Saturday happening on the four ferried islands.  The more people who participate, the closer we get to making real change.  Perhaps you have heard of the 3.5% rule.  It suggests that sustained, nonviolent protests involving at least 3.5% of the population are highly likely to cause significant political change.  So please choose among the following:

Lopez Island   11:00 AM   Lopez Community Center

San Juan Island   Noon   Courthouse Lawn

    Orcas Island   1:30   Village Green

Shaw Island   4:00   At the ferry terminal

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I am looking to step down from being chair of the county Democrats at the end of this year.  I have been in this position for nine years, and I feel it is time for a new person in this role who will bring new ideas, energy, and enthusiasm.  Our bylaws provide the following about replacing an officer:

Article III. Section 4. Vacant Positions: The Chair is empowered to fill any vacant PCO or vacant elected Officer position by appointment, with the concurrence of the Central Committee [the PCOs] at its next meeting. This procedure shall afford every Democrat registered to vote in the county a fair and equal opportunity to know of this vacancy.  The Chair shall announce the vacancy on the SJCD’s website and by e-mail to all on the SJCD’s e-mail list.  After the passage of ten days following the announcement, the Chair shall make the appointment.

The first step is to identify candidates for this position.  I have spoken with our current vice chair, Pam Hoke, and Pam is interested.  I think Pam would make an excellent chair.  If there are others who would like to be considered for this position, please send me an email to that effect at [email protected].

    Thanks,

    David Turnoy
